Support and FAQ

Getting started, voice, receipts, billing, your data, and how to reach a person.

Getting started

How do I log my first expense?

Tap the green mic in the middle of the tab bar and say “5.75 for coffee.” Linaw stops listening when you stop talking. The confirm card shows what it heard: tap Save, or wait three seconds and it saves itself. Allow Microphone and Speech Recognition the first time.

Can I type instead?

Yes. On Home, tap + (top right) and choose Add transaction. The keypad has the same fields: amount, merchant, category, account and date. You never have to use voice.

Do I need an account?

No. Logging by voice or typing, Insights, the calendar and the streak all work signed out. Sign in with Apple is asked for only when you buy Pro, buy a top-up, or scan a receipt.

Voice and Siri

Linaw didn't catch what I said

  1. Check that Microphone and Speech Recognition are allowed in iOS Settings → Linaw.
  2. Say the amount and the merchant together: “180 for lunch” works better than a long story.
  3. The free plan reads simpler sentences (“[amount] for [merchant]”) on your phone. Pro understands everyday phrasing too.

The wrong merchant or category came up

On the confirm card, tap the merchant or category to change it before saving. Linaw remembers the category you pick for a merchant; see or forget those in You → Remembered merchants. Rename categories in You → Categories.

Does Linaw work with Siri?

Yes. Say “Hey Siri, log to Linaw,” then say the entry. By default Siri reads back the merchant only, not the amount, so it's private in public. Turn on You → Voice & Siri → Speak amounts aloud to hear the amount too.

Receipts

How do I scan a receipt?

On Home, tap + → Scan receipt, sign in with Apple if asked, and photograph a paper receipt. Linaw reads the total, the merchant and the date; review and save. Receipt images are deleted within 60 seconds of processing.

How many scans do I get?

5 a month on the free plan (signed in), and up to 120 a month on Pro. A US$0.99 top-up adds credits for more scans on any plan. You → Plan shows what's left; it refreshes each month.

A scan didn't work

Linaw says what went wrong on the scan screen; tap OK and try again. It checks on your phone that the photo is a receipt before sending it, so a photo of something else is turned away without using a scan. When a scan fails on our side, it isn't counted.

Billing

How much is Linaw Pro?

US$3.99 a month or US$29.99 a year, billed through your Apple ID; the App Store shows your local price. Pro adds more receipt scans (up to 120 a month), natural voice phrasing, “Where you're headed” on Insights, and a monthly streak freeze. Everything else, including Insights' “where it went” and the calendar, is free.

How do I cancel?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Open iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Linaw and tap Cancel Subscription, or go to You → Plan → Manage subscription. Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for.

I bought Pro but the app says Free

Sign in with Apple, then open You → Plan and tap Restore purchases (it's also at the bottom of the paywall). Use the same Apple ID you paid with. Pro and its credits come back within a few seconds.

How do I get a refund?

App Store refunds are issued by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If Apple declines one you think is fair, email us and we'll see what we can do.

Privacy and your data

Where is my ledger stored?

On your iPhone. If you turn on You → iCloud sync, a copy goes to your private iCloud, which only you can read. We never receive your balances or transaction history. The privacy policy has the full picture.

How do I export or delete my data?

You → Export and restore saves your transactions as CSV or a full JSON backup, and Restore from a file brings a backup back. You → Delete account wipes your transactions, accounts and merchants on the phone and in iCloud, plus your server profile and credit ledger. It doesn't cancel Pro: stop renewals in your Apple ID settings first. A running subscription's credits come back once if you sign in again with it. Questions: email [email protected]; we reply within 30 days.

Do you sell or share my data?

No. No ad network, no data brokers, no third-party trackers.

Still stuck?
